School Safeguarding

Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcome

Safeguarding includes child protection, health care plans, health and safety, site security, safety on school trips, anti-bullying work and so much more.

The school’s Safeguarding Team consists of: Ms Caroline Moore (Designated Safeguarding Lead), Mr Laws, (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead), Mr Eva-Griffiths (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead) and Ms Licheri (Child Protection Officer).

The school adheres to the following three DFE safeguarding documents:

Operation Compass
Woodbridge High School is proud to be part of Operation Encompass, a national police and education early intervention safeguarding partnership. This initiative supports children and young people who are experiencing domestic abuse.

Operation compass

What is Operation Encompass?
Operation Encompass ensures that our school is informed, prior to the start of the next school day, when the police have attended a domestic abuse incident involving one of our pupils. This timely information allows us to provide immediate and tailored support to the child.

Why is this important?
Children were recognised as victims of domestic abuse in their own right under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. By receiving this information, our staff can better understand and respond to the emotional and practical needs of affected children, helping them feel safe and supported in school.

How does it work in our school?

  • Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Ms Moore is the Key Adult responsible for receiving Operation Encompass notifications.
  • The DSL has completed the Operation Encompass Key Adult training, and all staff are encouraged to undertake the free online training.
  • Information received is treated with the highest level of confidentiality and stored securely in line with our safeguarding procedures.
  • We ensure that parents/carers are aware of our participation in Operation Encompass, including in our welcome packs for new families.
  • The Safeguarding Committee reviews anonymised Operation Encompass data termly to monitor and improve our support strategies.

Our Commitment
We are committed to supporting every child’s wellbeing and ensuring that no action taken by the school places the child or non-abusing parent at further risk. We use the Operation Encompass Handbooks and Key Adult Responsibilities Checklist to guide our practice.
