DISADVANTAGED SUBSIDY FUNDS: APPLICABLE TO FREE-SCHOOL MEALS STUDENTS

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the school continues to have some funds available as a 'Disadvantage Subsidy’. This money can be offered to parents/carers, at the school’s discretion, to contribute towards the costs which might otherwise prevent children from taking part in educational activities. It can be allocated to families whose children are in receipt of free school meals and for children who are in the care of the local authority only.

If, for example, your child would like to participate in instrument lessons but the full cost might prevent him/her from doing so, then we could offer financial support, up to a maximum of 50% of the total, through these funds. Other examples would include: educational trips, ingredients for food technology and PE kits. I should advise you that funds are limited each year, but each case will be considered on its merits.

In the cases of residential/overseas school trips, parents/carers are required to write to me to request funding support. For all other curriculum-based activities such as day trips (e.g. field studies, theatres, etc), the school is presently able to fund 50% of the total cost automatically and there is no requirement to apply for this grant.
