Accelerated Reader

The Accelerated Reader programme is aimed to help students with comprehension and understanding of texts.

Accessing Reading Materials
Students can borrow books from the library if they are without a reading book. The library is accessible to students at lunchtime, before and after school. In addition to this, students can access reading and audio materials on our e-platforms. Please use the following link if your child would be interested in accessing these: https://woodbridge.wheelers.co/.

You can also download the eBook platform as an app straight to your phone or tablet device. The username is their school computer username and the password is Library1

Students can access the online library to reserve books, add books to their list, do visual searches of books and write book reviews for achievement points. Please find the link HERE. The username is their school computer username and the password is Library1.

Accelerated Reader
We are fortunate enough to have access to a fantastic program called Accelerated Reader (AR). Students can access this at school and from home, and they have familiarised themselves with this program in their year 7 and 8 library lessons. Our students know that they can access this through the school’s website to assess themselves on books they have been reading. The short quizzes generate 10 questions that test their understanding and comprehension of the text they have read. If they get 70% or above, this is considered a pass and tells the student that they understood the text well. Students are also awarded Achievement points when they have completed this.

For year 7 and 8 students, we have allocated three termly Accelerated Reader tests to be taken throughout the year, generating a reading book level/range for them. All of the books in the library have been labelled according to the AR reading levels/ranges so students will know to read a book within their range to avoid books being too easy or difficult for them. The English teachers will inform students of their book level range the following lesson and they will make a note of this in their planner.

We also recommend that you read with your child where possible and help them gauge the level of appropriateness of the books they choose.   You can find support with this via www.arbookfind.co.uk.  Please bear in mind that not all books are on Accelerated Reader, however, you can add a book to the Accelerated Reader via the Suggest Quizzes Tab at the top of the page.

Competitions and Awards
Each year 7 and 8 class will be encouraged to take as many quizzes as possible and at the end of each term, they will be awarded with some treats as a whole class. Additionally, our amazing librarian will be running ‘The Multi-Millionaires Club’ which rewards students for every 1 million words that they have read. Again, the AR program will track the number of words read and add to their total every time a quiz is completed. Also, students are welcome to join the Library Loyalty Scheme, Early Bird Club, Origami Club, and Reading for Pleasure on Fridays after school.

We hope you find this informative and useful in supporting your child with their reading and understanding how they can stay accountable for this also.
